A Cold Winter
Or, "When will summer get here?!"
I usually write a lot on LinkedIn, but I recently had to take a break. There’s a lot going on.
But every time I take a break from posting there, someone tells me that "they enjoyed my writing." Which then reminds me that people actually do read what I write - and some even enjoy it.
Such reminders are good, especially when one is trying to find shelter in a cold, cold winter. A winter where the road home is difficult to see, and the path has dangerous, slippery spots that refuse to reveal themselves and do real damage, even if you've done everything right.
This winter didn't just come for me; it came for everyone. With my upbringing, I've been trained to deal with it, to try to put a positive spin on it. Or if worse comes to worst, hunker down in the safety of my home.
Now an adult, I do so with bourbon. One finger. Neat.
But for some, me included, winter never really ends, it just takes a break. A brief spot of sunshine before the next blizzard. One would think that a hoodie would help; past events have taught us otherwise, as winter doesn't care about how you have prepared for it, the cold follows you anyway and penetrates that protective layer.
And now, we're in the coldest of winters I can remember, and we're all in it. Folks barely want to go outside. Those that do, go outside because they feel they have to. I salute those brave souls, because the winter doesn't have feelings, doesn't have a heart. It only knows how to make people freeze.
One day, it'll be summer. For everyone. God willing.
Your Pal,
TJ
